Dog Care/Husbandry
Age Requirement: 16 years or older
Shift Times: 8:30am - 10:30am, 4pm - 6pm (Mon - Fri) / 3pm - 5pm (Sat & Sun)
Volunteer Level: This is a Level Two volunteer position
This volunteer works closely with the canine animal care staff. For the safety of the volunteer, the job responsibilities will increase with the volunteers knowledge and experience. Training regarding animal behaviour, health and safety will be provided. This volunteer position makes the greatest impact on the daily comfort of the dogs in the shelter.
- Assist with cleaning and providing a comfortable home to the adoptable canine population
- Ensure dogs have fresh water at all times
- Feed breakfast/dinner
- Assist staff with providing medical care
- Monitor visiting public to ensure safety procedures are followed
- Socialize the dogs to increase adoptability
- Dishes and laundry
- Poop scooping in playgrounds
- Animal enrichment implementation
