Foster Homes

Shift Times: Full time in your home

Have you always loved animals but can't commit long term to a pet? Have you been lucky enough to experience the human-animal bond and want to help an animal in need? Doing a short term foster arrangement of a shelter animal may be the perfect way for you to help!

Shelter animals need foster care for many different reasons, some of which are:

  • Orphaned kittens that require specialized care
  • Kittens with mom that need a quiet and stress free place to live and develop
  • Animals requiring emergency short term placement as they cannot be left alone at night due to a medical issue
  • Animals recovering from surgery
  • Pregnant animals
  • Feral cat socialization
  • Cats with "kitty colds"

Foster owners should always make sure they consider the temperament and health of their own animals before fostering. Rarely do we have a medical history on foster animals, and it is always possible that the foster animal(s) may have a contagious condition. Therefore, it is important that pets already in the home be healthy and up to date on their vaccinations, including kennel cough for dogs.  In addition, some animals are not comfortable with children so it is important to communicate to staff if you have children in the home.  However, we do not restrict mother cats with kittens to be with children as it is often a great educational opportunity for your family.
